DeadLantern Presents The Splattercast

The Splattercast is a weekly podcast presented by DeadLantern.com with an emphasis on the horror genre and the occasional dalliance into other genre fare such as science fiction. It is one of the oldest and longest running horror podcasts on the internet. Originally conceived in 2005, the show finally came together in the summer of 2006. After a brief run of revolving co-hosts, the show settled onto its current lineup which has been unchanged for nearly 200 episodes. Episodes are generally joke heavy and extremely sarcastic and topics covered can be anything from silent films like D.W. Griffith’s The Avenging Conscience to ridiculous fare such as Mummy Theme Park and everything in between. A popular aspect of the Splattercast are their event episodes which can range from franchise marathons (ex. watching all the Howling movies, Saw series, Puppet Masterendurance, etc.) to causes (Breast Cancer Awareness episode) to genre spotlights (Noirvember) to the Splatcademy Awards, a yearly award show that brings together the best horror podcasts on the internet. The dynamic of the shows hosts is created by Mat and Jeff, experienced genre viewers who have deep knowledge of film, and Steve and Deejay who don’t understand anything and are wrong about everything. In addition to the Splattercast, the hosts also participate in a number of other podcasts such as The Explodey Files and The Blackfoot Lounge, that can all be found in the Dead Lantern Podcasting Family In addition, the Splattercast are independent filmmakers operating Dead Lantern Pictures, having produced two feature length horror films, Outpost Doom and The Grand Horror, which give them a unique take on the underbelly of horror filmmaking.
