Little Red Riding Hood and the Monsters (1965)
Caperucita y Pulgarcito contra los monstruos (original title)
Directed by: Roberto Rodríguez
Language: Dubbed to English from Spanish
In an attempt to avoid the label of statuesque, today i will review Little RedRiding Hood and the Monsters (1965), a Mexican children’s musical that is now viewed as a cult film. Directed by Roberto Rodríguez, this film was originally released in 1962 under the title “Caperucita y Pulgarcito contra los monstruos“. An America movie producer named K. Gordon Murray aka “King of the kiddie matinée” purchased the rights to the film. Murray then re-dubbed the dialog in English, and re-released the film in The United States as “Little Red Riding Hood and the Monsters” in 1965.
Plot: Little Red Riding Hood’s friends (The Friendly Red Headed Ogre and The not so Ferocious Wolf) are kidnapped by an Evil Witch. With the help of Little Tom Thumb and Stinky the Skunk, Little Red must defeat the Evil Witch and save her friends; however, the motley rescue party must first overcome the Evil Witch’s “bad guy’s” (Dracula, Carrot Head, The Robot, Mr. Hurricane, The Siamese Twins and Frankenstein). Through a series of slapstick routines and the occasional song, Little Red and the gang save the day by defeating the Evil Witch and her “bad guy’s”, and reuniting with her friends (The Friendly Red Headed Ogre and The not so Ferocious Wolf)…End..
Little Red Hiding Hood and the Monsters was intended as a children’s musical, but the crazy charters and premise give it a cult film vibe. Mental images of Dracula, Frankenstein, a talking skunk, and Little Red Riding Hood are a mind fuck, mix in singing, 3 stooges style slapstick, poor dubbing, and more deranged characters and you are now in a nightmare. Based on this review you may imagine a shitty B movie; on an intellectual level you’re correct. On the Root Rot level, Little Red Hiding Hood and the Monsters is so bad it’s fucking golden.
On the Root Rot scale of (A+) being the best and (E) the worst, the 1965 Little Red Riding Hood and the Monsters gets an (B)… Realistically, the movie is an acquired taste making it very hard to grade. The grade is based my feeling toward the film.

What an absurdly entertaining sounding film, I’ll need to track this one down for Family Movie Night at the McBastard household.
The US version is only on bootleg, I pick my up on eBay for 5 bucks. If you want a copy let me know.
