Game Review of Angry Birds Halloween (phone app)

Angry Birds Halloween phone app

By: Rovio

If you’re a fan of the game Angry Birds (the phone application game that’s as addictive as crack) there’s a good possibility the Angry Birds Halloween edition is just a .99 cent download away. Before you spend your hard earned money you should read this review.

I was a huge fan of the original Angry Birds when it first came out for the iPhone. After hours upon hours of game play I forced myself to stop. Maybe the fact that I lost track of the days that inspired me to stop, but whatever it was made me not play again until last week. Seeing how I am a fan of both Halloween and Angry Birds  it was a no brainier to buy the Angry Birds Halloween app.

After the first board I knew I had been fooled into thinking that Angry Birds Halloween was something new. Angry Birds Halloween is the same as the orginal, but with a orange and black background….oh, one of the boards had a ghost in it…and a lot less levels….oh wait, there are jack o lanterns too.

So if you can’t get enough Angry Birds and you’re just itching to spend .99 cents then download it, but I would get to excited….

Halloween Facts

Author: Root Rot

Origins

Samhain is the ancient Celtic New Year that fell around the end of October, and gave us most of our Halloween’s traditions.

Turnips were originally carved as Jack o’ Lantern instead of pumpkins.
Dressing up for trick or treat dates back to the Middle Ages.

In the US the first mass-produced Halloween costumes appeared in stores in the 1930s.

Current

Approximately 85% of children participate in some kind of Halloween celebration in The US.

The best-selling Halloween candy is candy corn.

The Freak Stalkaround costume is one of the most expensive commercial Halloween costumes for 2010.

The Cutting Edge Haunted House in Fort Worth Texas, is the largest walk trough haunted attraction in the world.

1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins are produced each year.

The world record weight for a  pumpkin is 1810.5 lbs.

Halloween Eve

Known as Mischief Night, Cabbage Night, Damage Night, Beggar’s Night Doorbell Night, Trick Night, Corn Night, Tick-Tack Night, Goosey Night, and Devils Night.

Some activities consist of ringing doorbell’s, egging cars, soaping windows, TP’ing houses and setting a bag of shit on fire.

Halloween in Other Countries

Austria – Some people set out bread, water and a lighted lamp on Halloween night to welcome back dead souls.

China – Halloween is known as Teng Chieh.

Colombia - Instead of trick or treat kids say, ¡Triqui triqui Halloween, Quiero dulces para mi, Si no hay dulces para mi, Se le crece la nariz! (Tricky tricky Halloween, I want candy for me, If there is no candy for me, Your nose will grow).

Hong Kong - Halloween is known as Yue Lan (Festival of the Hungry Ghosts).

India - Is considered as more of a social event based on American pop culture.

Korea - Halloween is known as Chusok.

Mexico-Halloween is known as El Dia de los Muertos (the days of the dead) a three-day celebration that begins on October 31.

Spain - Same as Mexico.

Sweden - Halloween is known as Alla Helgons Dag.

Music

Samhain (the Irish origins of Halloween) is the name of the metal band formed by Glenn Danzig in 1983.

Evidently there’s a band named Halloween from Detroit, but not to be confused with the German power metal band Helloween.

The Dave Matthews Band song “Halloween”  was written by Dave Matthews about getting snubbed by his ex…pussy..

Death

On Halloween 1926 Magician Harry Houdini died of gangrene and peritonitis.

Halloween birthdays:

Peter Jackson (1961)

The drummer for Motörhead (1963)

Vanilla Ice (1967)

Gay Porn Star Brent Corrigan  (1986)

And those are the facts…

Witch’s Hat Spotlight: The Myers House North Carolina

Author: Root Rot

At some point everyone has passed a particular house that reminds them of one from a movie, looks like a witch may live in it, or simply creeps them out. Every time I drive down my block I pass a house that reminds me of the one from Amityville Horror. As I continue to drive I think about how cool it would be to live in such a home. I imagine if I put forth some effort, I could find houses that resemble those from all the classics. There is one house however, that goes beyond a mere resemblance; Kenny Caperton lives in a life-size replica of the infamous Michael Myer’s house from John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978).

Located in Hillsborough, North Carolina, The Myers House duplicate is not only an interesting attraction for your average tourist, it’s a surreal experience for horror fans, and a must see for Halloween fans. Visitors from across the United States come year round to explore this life size model. Owner, Kenny Caperton’s only request is that visitors email in advance to schedule an appointment.

In an email I asked Kenny why he recreated The Myers house, he offered the following explanation:

“When I returned home from Hollywood after attending theworld premiere of Rob Zombie’s “HALLOWEEN” in August 2007, my girlfriend Emily and I were in the middle of house hunting. I was looking through my pictures from the trip and of course I visited the original Myers House while I was in town (the original house is still standing in South Pasadena, CA). I was looking at this simple little Victorian house on my computer screen and thought to myself, “I wonder how much it would cost to build something like this?” And in the next five minutes I was on the phone with the City of South Pasadena trying to acquire blueprints. So that’s how it all started …a lot of craziness and a DREAM!”

Since the construction of The Myers House in August of 2008, Kenny has generously offered his home to host, the A&E filming of “Halloween: The Inside Story”, Trick-or-Treat in June, and the 1st Annual HALLOWEEN Bash, to name a few events. Coming up on October 31st, 2010, The Myers House will host the 2nd Annual Halloween bash which features screenings of H2O, Trick or Treat, and The Myers House original movie Judith. Like many of Kenny’s other events, the admission price can’t be beat…..well, because there isn’t one; seriously, it’s free.

Kenny and his house have been featured in numerous online publications, podcasts and newspapers. While Kenny’s original intent may have been to simply build his dream home, it has turned into much more. The Myers House sustains a reputation that brings visitors from afar to share in Kenny’s appreciation of the home and offers a unique setting for a plethora of events.

My thoughts? There is no doubt that when I make my way to North Carolina, The Myers House will be a must see.
