Yah or Nay of the Day: The Walking Dead Season One (2010)

Written by: Root Rot

Yah or Nay of the Day goes like this… I tell you if I did or didn’t like a movie I’ve recently watched and why ..  I guess you could call them mini reviews.

The Walking Dead Season One (2010)

Created by: Frank Darabont

Genera:  Television series

Plot

After being shot in the line of duty, Sheriff Rick Grimes wakes up in the hospital only to find himself alone and surrounded by zombies. It becomes apparent something happened during his coma that is causing the un-buried dead to come back to life and eat the flesh of the living (I know you’ve heard that one before). Rick quickly reunites with his family (wife and son), his former police partner and introduced to a group of survivors that’s been surviving on the outskirts of the city.

Sheriff Grimes soon faces more problems besides zombies when he finds out his former partner is banging his wife and playing father to his son. Also there is mounting personality conflicts amongst the group of survivors that’s leading toward violence.

The tension between the members of the group, Rick’s domestic problems, lack of food, rival groups of survivors and the occasional surprise zombie attacks make up most of season one of The Walking Dead.

Verdict

I will give The Walking Dead season one a big bandwagon jumping Yah and here’s why…

I’m a big fan of The Walking Dead comic book series (by Image comics) and expected the AMC series wouldn’t be nearly as good as it turned out to be. Of course there are a few differences between the TV series and the comic book, yet it didn’t matter to me. The characters were likable enough that I wanted to know what would happen to then next. I especially enjoyed the spot on similarities between the zombies in the comic book and the TV series. I have to give AMC credit for allowing the pull no punches rated R violence that’s necessary for this type of series.

I am looking forward to see what happens in the upcoming thirteen episode season two of The Walking Dead. It should be equally as good if not better than season one if continues to follow the comic book’s storyline.

Semi-Dead Season 1 Preview by Chris Wiltz

Author: Chris Wiltz (Show Creator)

Posted by: Root Rot

Semi-Dead Season 1 is now available online!

The six-episode first season of the new horror-comedy web series Semi-Dead is now fully available online.

You know how in every zombie movie there’s that point where the heroes meet a second group of survivors only to slowly realize that these new people have somehow lost it? …This is a show about that second group of people.

Chris and Joe are roommates, both former military, trying to live normal, productive lives in this modern, Internet-dominated world… It’d be a lot easier though, if the city weren’t swarming with zombies.

On the plus side, it seems that somebody forgot to turn out the lights and, despite the city being ravaged by zombies, much of the infrastructure remains in tact. For the time being there are still utilities, electricity, gas and even Internet access available. But that doesn’t stop this whole thing from affecting the two in wildly different ways. Joe goes into full on survival mode–struggling to fight against the zombies and sometimes finding rather disturbing and unorthodox ways to survive. Chris however, has suffered some form of PTSD and is living his life as if nothing out of the ordinary has
happened.

So, while Joe embarks on an endless quest of survival (so long as he doesn’t have to leave too many of the comforts of home behind), Chris continues to go to “work,” run errands, look for dates, make sure Joe pays the rent on time, and generally maintain his 9 to 5 existence all without ever even noticing the zombies.

But things are not always as they seem and, as Chris and Joe encounter other survivors and gradually stumble onto the truth of what is happening to the city, survival may not be a matter of sanity but rather which one of them is crazier.
